HindlePower Certified Technical Training

Purpose:

The purpose is to provide an outline of the necessary items that should be covered by training programs for stationary battery installation and maintenance personnel (IEEE).  It is HindlePower’s goal to ensure that all technicians receive training in accordance to this standard in order to receive their appropriate level of certification.

Technician Skill Levels:

Much of the course material covered in the HindlePower training program fall under required courses for either level 2 or level 3 battery technicians for IEEE standards.

Hands On Training

IEEE recognizes that certain skills are best “shown” rather than “classroom taught” and requires at a minimum certain skills be demonstrated interactively (IEEE).  HindlePower training offers hands on training in accordance to IEEE requirements having students perform different types of work on the charger in the form of:

  • Proper care and maintenance
  • Operation of front panel
  • AC voltage changes
  • Field installation kits
  • Proper handling of circuit boards
  • Use of test equipment

Various other examples will be used in the training in the form of demonstration chargers and component displays.

Testing

IEEE recommends that both hand’s on and written tests be performed to ensure the skills taught in a training were taught and learned effectively.  HindlePower training course has multiple quizzes that are hands on based and cover the material discussed.  Also, at the conclusion of the training course, a final exam will be distributed.  Students must get a grade of 80% or higher to receive their HindlePower certification.

Certification

All students who get a grade of 80% or higher on the final exam will receive their HPU Technical Certification.  This certifies the student is factory approved to perform start-ups, maintenance and repair on HindlePower product.  These certifications are valid for a period of 2 years upon receipt.  After 2 years students are required to receive some form of follow up training by either additional factory training or in the form of a live webinar.  Once follow up training is completed students will receive a renewed certification.

Technical Training Course Catalog

Battery charger basics will walk students through the basic component make up of all HindlePower chargers. Using a flow chart the students will see what is involved in the design of the battery chargers.

The HindlePower Product overview will answer that question by showing the full scope of product that HindlePower offers and how they meet your needs.

Now that you have seen the entire product line it is time to size it up for your application. This battery charger sizing course will take you through the process to size your charger for your application per the IEEE standards.

Understanding the Data Nameplate is crucial when installing a battery charger in your substation. This nameplate holds all of the critical information about your charger and this course will help you to decipher the information.

Many HindlePower products offer the ability to work at different AC inputs. This course will show students how to know which chargers have this capability, and the step by step procedure to perform this change. Students will work hands on with product and be required to perform an AC input change.

This course takes you through the proper way to start up a battery charger. Once powered up the course will take you through all of the front panel operations. This course will go through all parameter settings and calibration.

There are many options for HindlePower products. This course will take students through the most commonly used features: Temperature Compensation, Forced Load Sharing, and Communications.

This course takes deeper look at the operation and function of HindlePower battery chargers. Students will be walked through basic schematics of AT and SCR product.

This course will show the basic steps to use to troubleshoot any HindlePower Product. Alarm indicators and error codes will be discussed as well as some common instances that may be encountered in the field.

One of the most common occurrences seen on battery chargers is the ground detection alarm. This course goes into details on how ground detection operates and also how to troubleshoot a ground fault.

In the process of repair and maintenance many times part replacements are required. This course will go through common replacement parts and how to install them. Students will perform these common replacements.

This course will go through the factory recommended procedure when performing maintenance for any HindlePower charger to ensure a long working life of your battery charger.

Upon completion of each of these courses students will be given a written Final Exam. This exam will cover all of the material listed above.
